During the 2017-2018 California legislative session. Senate Bill 796, also known as the
Naturopathic Doctors Act was amended to require all Naturopaths, Traditional Naturopaths and Naturopathic Practitioners to be "educated and trained". However, no standards of education were mentioned
by law. This left a large gray zone for practitioners of Naturopathy. The California Naturopathic
Certification Board was created to fill that void and provide standards of competency and
safety for the public.
